A West Cumbrian charity fundraiser has completed seven marathons in seven days.
Chris Young an engineer from Cleator Moor, was inspired by Marathon Man Gary McKee.
Chris has joined in to support his good friend Gary’s enormous feat, embarking on his own set of marathons which have helped him overcome various personal challenges.
Gary, Chris’ inspiration has been running a marathon every day this year in aid of Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support, he will complete his challenge on December 31.
Last week Chris ran seven marathons in seven days, fundraising for Gary’s 365 challenge. 29-year-old Chris said his mum’s recent cancer diagnosis speared him on to help Gary with his awe-inspiring work. He added: “I’ve been supporting Gary throughout his challenge and as of last Saturday I have run 58 marathons this year.
“I started supporting Gary’s 365 campaign off the back of my mum’s cancer diagnosis last year, she received the news of her diagnosis while I was out supporting Gary on day 110 of his previous challenge. I have committed myself to a minimum of 78 marathons.
“Last week I ran seven consecutive marathons, and I completed the seventh marathon with my dad, Peter, who has always been my idol and inspiration. He often says that it’s role reversal I’m now and I’m his inspiration and he wanted to support me on this challenge, so he rowed the marathon with me on Saturday.”
Chris who also works at Sellafield Ltd like Gary, added: “I battle anxiety, depression and have recently been diagnosed with ADHD – the latter being a lot more debilitating than people would think or could imagine.
“I’ve absolutely loved getting out with Gary, I count the days down till I can get back out on the cycle track running again, it’s turned my life around.”
