
Windscale travelled across to Durham for their first ever Thursday night match with only 13 available players.
Despite travel problems, resulting in a 20 minute delay to the start of the game, Windscale maintained their unbeaten away record with a 4-3 victory.
Both teams showed their attacking intent from the kick off, each creating a couple of opportunities. With the breakthrough coming in the 14th minute.
A Durham corner kick was cleared with Lewis Jolly picking up the ball, outpacing a defender and planting the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.
After having a penalty appeal waved away in the 28th minute, Durham levelled the scores a minute later.
The next ten minutes saw Windscale exerting a period of pressure which produced a goal from Cameron Carter. A cross from Lewis White was met by Carter who poked the ball home.
Jolly again, and Ross Leeson, both tested the Durham keeper without success and the score remained 2-1to the visitors at the interval.
The Atoms increased their lead on the hour mark. Following good work by Reece Fretwell and Joe Atkinson, Jolly notched his second of the game.
Put through on goal he planted the ball beyond the advancing keeper into the net off the inside of the post.
Durham reduced the arears in the 74th minute and levelled the scores at 3-3 with only seven minutes left.
The deciding goal came directly from the kick off. Fretwell retained the ball, despite challenges from three defenders, and delivered a pass to the feet of Leeson on the overlap. He kept going before drilling the ball into the back of the net.
Ryan Byrne and Lewis Selkirk were introduced from the bench to provide some renewed energy, and the Atoms saw out the rest of the game with the three points intact.
Windscale entertain another Durham team in the League on Saturday when Durham City visit the Falcon Complex with a 2:30 kick off.
