Rail users have been left without any form of travel replacement after sudden train cancellations.
Northern Rail has issued a do not travel notice to those travelling between Newcastle to Carlisle today. This includes trains running between Haltwhistle and Carlisle and Appleby and Carlisle.
In a tweet, the train company said: “Unfortunately we are advising customers not to travel between these stations as we are unable to source road replacement following disruption involving a derailed train.”
The disruption started last night and users have reported having to travel towards Edinburgh in an attempt to return to Carlisle.
Customers who have experienced disruption may be entitled to compensation.
