Alex Clegg is the latest Workington Town player to be reunited with coach Chris Thorman at Newcastle Thunder.
He follows Rhys Clark and Jake Lightowler who have signed for the 2023 Thunder squad.
A familiar face to many at Kingston Park, the 22-year-old returns to the Thunder having spent a season away.
Prior to his move to Workington Town in 2022 where he featured 27 times, Clegg had spent three seasons at Thunder since his debut in 2018.
The utility back made 50 appearances in his first stint at the club and returned an impressive 27 tries.
Speaking on his return to the club, Clegg said: “I’m excited to be back at Thunder, it’s a club that means a lot to me.
“It will be good to work with Chris again, I learnt a lot from him last year at Workington and I’m hoping to do the same again this year.
“I’m looking forward to having a good season with all the lads.”
Newcastle Thunder head coach Thorman said: “Alex works in the area and was a student at Northumbria, so he has quite a lot of ties to the club and community.
“It was a no brainer for me to bring Alex in. He was really consistent during his spell with me at Workington.
“Alex has a great attitude and works incredibly hard; his error rate was really low during his time at Town and that can only be admired.
“I have no doubts that he will be a popular member of this squad we’re building and personally I think Alex is yet to fully reach his potential.
“He’s still relatively young so it’ll be good to work with him to maximise his game.
“Alex also offers a good level of versatility. He’s got a fair idea of his positional sense in terms of being an outside back and winger but at Workington, he was able to fill in at centre and fullback which is definitely a positive attribute to have.
“He is someone I’ve enjoyed working with previously and hopefully will continue this into the new season.”
