An independent investigation has been launched into an incident at a West Cumbrian school involving a pupil.
Emergency services were called at around 11.50am on November 10, to West Lakes Academy in Egremont after the incident involving a male student. No details have been given about what happened, but the pupil was taken to hospital. He is recovering.
Principal Abby Deeks called the event ‘unprecedented and shocking’.
In a further update released to parents, she said Kym Allan, a health and safety consultancy, had been commissioned by the academy to undertake an independent investigation into the incident and a health and safety assessment of the Main Street school’s environment.
She told parents: “We will publish this report and share it with you once it has been produced.”
Students have been able to talk about their thoughts and feelings with pastoral staff, she said, and those in need of additional support have had short sessions with educational psychologists.
Psychologists will be at the school next week, Ms Deeks added, and group sessions, plus peer-to-peer and pastoral support will also be offered.
