Maryport and Carlisle City County Cup game’s new date

Carlisle City have arranged to play their County Cup game with Maryport Athletic at Gillford Park on Wednesday night.

Weather permitting that is after Saturday’s high profile Northern League Division One game with Bishop Auckland was called off.

The game was called off on Friday after the spell of heavy rain had produced surface water problems and ground staff hope the weather before Wednesday will allow things to improve.

Manager Jim Nichols said: “We are very grateful to Maryport actually for agreeing to come through to our place. After two postponements they would have been in their rights to claim home advantage. Without lights that would have meant playing on a Saturday.

“Fair play to them they said they would still come through and play at ours so I just hope we can get it on this Wednesday.

“it was disappointing to lose such an attractive home game with Bishops’ and we were especially looking forward to it after a winning performance last week.

“We go to Northallerton next Saturday and they are a team who have been improving so it will be a good test but I hope to have a good few more players available.”
