Cumbrian firms are asked to step up to help primary school youngsters become the Bright Stars of business in the future.
The Bright Stars programme has helped thousands of young children to learn about business by partnering primary schools with local companies.
The programme is project managed by the Cockermouth-based Centre for Leadership Performance, and is designed to provide everyday leadership opportunities from primary age, raising aspirations, building confidence and boosting self-belief as they showcase hidden talents and are empowered to lead change.
It also introduces children to potential future careers and enables businesses to forge links with their future workforce and provides opportunities for engagement.
Last year, almost 60 schools took part in Bright Stars.
Shannon Rogerson, of Circular1 Health, said: “I enjoyed every part of it. We had weekly visits with the school and every time it was amazing to see how far they’d come and what they had achieved. The way they responded to the programme made me proud to be a part of it and I hope we made a difference to their future.”
The programme begins introducing companies and schools in January and starts in March. Children get seed-funding to start their businesses with the aim ‘to make a profit and make a difference’, following the best examples of self-sustaining social enterprise.
