Organisers of Workington’s Christmas lights switch-on event said it will still go ahead – but the weather has forced them to make changes.

High winds mean that the event today, November 26, will not have a main stage erected in the Marks & Spencer car park, which will now be open as usual.

Organisers Workington Town Council said live acts due to go on the main stage will now perform in HMV on Risman Way with the exception of Carnegie Singers, who will perform under the hub at the times advertised.

The Christmas market will be inside the former Yours store and stalls with vans will be on Risman Place.

All activities indoors and activities at Bensons for Beds will take place as advertised.

The lights switch-on will still take place at 5pm, but under the hub in the centre of town. Christmas card winners should make their way to the hub for 4.45pm and see staff in high vis.

The lantern parade will now not take place, but people can take them to the hub for 5pm for the switch-on.
