A would-be burglar caught twice on camera doorbells as he loitered with intent outside Carlisle homes in the dead of night has appeared at a city court.
Alfie McIntosh, 19, was with an accomplice when he tried to enter addresses at Yewdale Road and Green Lane between 4am and 4.30am on September 7.
“Each property had the benefit of a Ring doorbell footage and this defendant was identified by police officers from that footage,” prosecutor George Shelley told Carlisle Magistrates’ Court.
No entry was gained. But McIntosh did steal £10 in coins from a car belonging to a woman which had been parked on Green Lane and left unlocked.
When he appeared in court from custody — having failed to attend on an earlier date — McIntosh admitted theft and two attempted burglaries with intent to steal.
He also pleaded guilty to allowing himself to be carried in a Ford Fiesta which had been taken without consent on August 29. Police had activated blue lights to try and stop the car on Eastern Way but the unidentified driver sped off.
The Fiesta was later found to be an insurance write-off having been crashed into a bus stop which was also damaged to the tune of £2,100.
McIntosh made it a hat-trick of offending on November 4 when police stopped a Volkswagen Passat on Carlisle’s Eden Bridge and noted McIntosh was unsteady on his feet. He failed a breath test and also admitted a drink-driving charge in court today.
He was represented in court by lawyer Andrew Gurney. After hearing submissions, District Judge John Temperley committed the case to Carlisle Crown Court.
McIntosh is due to be sentenced by a judge on January 3, and was remanded in custody in the meantime.
