Part of the A595 will close for 10 weekends next year so major repairs can take place.
National Highways will close a section of the A road above Moresby Hall as part of its work to strengthen the embankment, which collapsed earlier this year.
The first phase will begin soon and will mostly take place off the road while workers build the embankment, install new drainage and improve biodiversity in the area.
The second phase, earmarked to being in May, involves moving a large gas pipeline which runs below the road, as well as extra drainage improvements and completing work on the embankment.
A spokesman said: “This phase of work cannot be carried out while the road is open for the safety of our workers and people using the road.”
Weekend closures are expected to be in place over 10 consecutive weekends, from 10pm Friday until 3am Monday.
People can find out more about the project at drop-in events to be held at Parton Village Hall on Friday, December 2, Friday December 9 and Friday December 16 from 10am to noon.
During the second phase of work, the Howgate roundabout, which was installed in 2009, will also be upgraded to improve safety and reduce congestion.
A 200m merge lane on the southbound exit will be created, lane markings improved and new road signs installed.
