A green space in the centre of Barrow has been awarded cash for redevelopment and people are being asked to help shape its design.

Barrow Borough Council secured an £85,000 Levelling Up Parks Grant from the Government to transform Argyle Place. Members of the council’s executive committee supported the submission for funding in October.

Now, a consultation is set to take place on Tuesday, December 6, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at the Sacred Heart Community Hub in Pottery Street.

People are encouraged to attend to give their views and help influence the design of the park and a team of landscape architects will be in attendance to take questions. Refreshments will be available.

Councillor Derek Brook, Barrow Borough Council’s lead member for community, said: “The consultation is really important for us to discover what the local community would like to see in this park as the designs move forward.

“We are so pleased that we got this funding – we want to see this space become an accessible and fun place for all.”

The purpose of the Levelling Up Parks Fund is to create a new or significantly refurbished green space in urban areas that need it most. Work on site could get underway in the new year with the project completed by March.
