Two West Cumbrian pharmacies have been sold for an undisclosed sum.
FC Whelan in Workington and Harrington Pharmacy have been run by Linda Orton and Nicholas Carter for around 14 years, but they have decided to retire.
Now the pair have sold the businesses to a consortium of first-time buyers who have relocated from the Midlands to run them.
FC Whelan, on John Street in Workington, dispenses an average of 8,400 NHS items a month, while Harrington Pharmacy, on Church Road, dispenses an average of 7,125 NHS items a month.
The sale was managed by Christie & Co and the businesses have been bought by Sridhar Maturi, Naveen Kumar Anisetty, Varun Dara, and Ananth Kumar.
The buyers said: “We were attracted to these pharmacies as we feel we can introduce additional healthcare services to benefit the local communities.

“Nick and Linda, have run the pharmacies well for many years, which should help us implement our plans at both sites.”
Karl Clezy, director – medical at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, added: “We marketed the two pharmacies separately and received a mix of offers for them both individually and as a pair.
“Over the last couple of years, the pharmacies have enjoyed an upturn in business, which helped attract interest from buyers located across England, with the sale concluding to buyers from the Midlands.
“These types of pharmacies, located in more outlying areas, are attracting more interest from owner pharmacists.”
