Whitehaven have announced that popular hard-working forward Andrew Dawson is to take time away from the game.
Dawson is leaving the LEL Arena after two years in which he made 35 appearances, scoring one try against Halifax last season.
Dawson has decided to take an extended period of absence from the game.
During last season, he suffered some head knocks which made him unavailable for selection towards the back end of the Championship campaign.
Following a period of reflection he has made the decision to step away from the game entirely, which the club said they supported.
Now 33, he first signed for Barrow in 2012 and since then played 174 games in his career at Barrow and Workington Town including two seasons at Championship level with Barrow.
A Whitehaven spokesman said: “Everyone at the club wishes Andrew and his family well in the future.”
