Millom amateur rugby league club is celebrating their 150th anniversary next season – and in relative terms Carlisle rugby union club is only a short head behind!

The club was formed in October 1873 and will celebrate the 150th anniversary season in 2023/2024.

Events, functions and celebrations will be put in place and to this end the club is encouraging any former player or member who has past memories of their time at Warwick Road, to volunteer information.

Two recent floods have culminated in the loss of many records, documents and archives; although some are believed lodged with a local archivist so the club is keen to see what former players and members have to share next year.

Secretary David Morton said: “Peter Ransley, who was a formidable playing servant of the club at the time of the 100th anniversary , and indeed was the club captain during that season, is now vice president of our club.

“Given a fair wind, it is fitting that, subject to confirmation at the next AGM, Pete will be our president and thus lead us through the season – and the one after that.

“More detailed information will be published from time to time to update members and followers on progress.”
