Workington Comets’ third signing for their return to competitive speedway is 18-year-old Elliot Kelly, who hails from Yarm in North Yorkshire.
Kelly, who will be 19 in January, has had a mixed career so far in the third tier of British Speedway.
After completing two full seasons of National League racing with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers, a spell which included a League title win in 2021, he made the surprising decision to step away from speedway at the start of last season.
At the time he said he had lost his enjoyment of the sport and racing was becoming a chore to him.
However, a few weeks into the new season saw a change of heart and the realisation of how much he missed the thrill of riding resulted in a return to the saddle, linking up with Edinburgh’s junior side Armadale Devils.

Coming into a side halfway through a season was always going to be difficult, playing catch up to riders who have been racing from the start and by his own admission while not really picking up as many good scores as he would have liked, he was clearly enjoying his racing more than ever.
Joined by Tom Wooley for the National League Pairs the Armadale duo finished as runners up to Leicester in August and a rejuvenated Elliot realises the new season is going to be a big year for him as he looks to make further progress in the sport.
He will be starting his fourth season of National League racing in a Comets reserve berth with an average of 3.30.
