
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in Carlisle.
The woman, in her 50s, has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened at Ellesmere Way on Saturday, December 17, and emergency services were called at around 3pm.
A 38-year-old man from Carlisle has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
A police spokesman said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident
A cordon is currently in place on Ellesmere Way and Thirlwell Gardens whilst detectives conducted investigative enquiries.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident, police added.
