Essential roadworks on the A592 have been delayed due to the weather.
Cumbria County Council is leading the resurfacing work – part of the Department for Transport’s Safer Roads Project.
It started last year and involves five different phases along a 23-mile section of the popular Lakeland route running between Windermere, along the banks of Ullswater, and to the A66 near Rheged.
Along with resurfacing the road, some paths will be resurfaced, and some kerbing will be renewed. Work has been carried out in phases.
However, as a result of the recent weather and ground temperatures, the last part of the road surfacing from Brackenrigg to Waterfoot junction will now be completed in the new year.
Contractors Hansons will be on site until Wednesday, December 21, ensuring that the ironworks have ramps in place and that signs are clear and concise for travellers, the county council said, meaning the road will remain passable, with care, over the holiday period without diversions.
The Hansons team will return to the site on January 9.
