Champagne corks will be popping tonight at Workington Juniors Football club to celebrate the news they have been waiting for.
The Ranch is to remain their home after the purchase was confirmed by Workington Town Council last night.
There have been concerns over the last 12 months that the land at Moss Bay would be lost but the Juniors can now crack on with exciting plans to improve the site.
Chairman David Garrett said: “It really is terrific news for our club and what we have been hoping for.
“We have some really great ideas for the site and potential backing line-up. Hopefully it’s going to be a sportying hub for the community not too far down the line.
“I would just like to thank Workington Town Council for agreeing to the purchase and to Workington MP Mark Jenkinson for his efforts in helping to see it through.
“The town council has agreed to proceed and drawn down the money to complete the purchase of the Ranch.
“Given the Christmas break, it is expected that the council will aim to complete all legal elements of purchase by mid to end of January.
“Everyone is working together to see it through and I’m sure this will be seen as a significant day.
“There are also two individuals I would like to mention personally for the great help that they have provided.
“One is Paul Scott, a member of the town council and the other is Keith Wareing, who has really acted as a business advisor. Their help has been crucial.”
Workington Juniors have over 600 members and the Ranch has been a traditional sporting venue in the town since the 1950s when it was developed by the Steelworks.
