Former Workington Town forward Hanley Dawson is ready to go again and has signed a one-year deal with Barrow Raiders.
Operating primarily as a loose forward, he made 26 appearances over the last three seasons for Workington before leaving the club in April to return to the community game.
Now he feel ready to return to the pro ranks and will link-up with Paul Crarey’s side ahead of the upcoming 2023 Betfred Championship campaign.
Dawson trained with the Raiders towards the end of last season and has done enough to secure a 12-month deal.
Discussing the move, he said: “I’ve been out of the professional game for a few months now, and I’ve worked hard to put myself back in this position. I’m grateful to the board and the staff for giving me this opportunity.
“After the success that this club had on and off the field last year, and the way they’re flying the flag for Cumbrian rugby, it’s the best place for me to develop.
“The challenge now is building on last season and keeping that consistency up.”
Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “Hanley is yet another local player who fell out with rugby a little bit and left Workington Town.
“After a few months away from the game he decided to try and rekindle his love for the sport by coming and training with us. He really enjoyed the culture he found and was an instant hit with the players and coaching staff.
“Hanley has continued to train hard with us and has earned the right to become, hopefully, a valued member of our squad.
“There are lots of players around with great talent, but not all fit in with how we expect things to be done and that’s fine. Not only does Hanley fit in well with our culture, he is also looking like someone who will be a great player for us as well.”
