An application to install around 390 solar panels at a Lake District hotel has been submitted to the national park authority.
The submission would see the panels added to the roofs of various buildings at Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa, between Troutbeck Bridge and Ambleside.
A design and access statement submitted by Mason Gillibrand Architects in support of the application says: “The siting of the solar panels has been designed to maximise the amount of solar energy that is gathered, whilst reducing the visual impact as much as practically possible.”
The statement says this would be achieved by placing the majority of the panels either to the eastern-facing roof slope – away from the road – or in roof valleys.
“The only major exception to this premise is the 35-panel array located on the top of the Convention Building,” says the statement.
The statement says it is felt there is minimal visual impact from the array due to the height of the roof and it being set back from the roadside.
