Runners from across Cumbria raised over £30,000 for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice in this year’s Great North Run.
Now the charity is asking people to consider taking part in the event in 2023 to help it care for adults with life-limiting illnesses from north Cumbria and children from all corners of the county.
It relies heavily on donations and support from local people to continue offering care to families at a time when they need it most.
It costs more than £4 million to run the charity with more than £3 million of that needing to be raised through fundraising initiatives, such as the Great North Run.
It can now be revealed that the 2022 cohort of runners raised £30,426 and the charity has once again secured a number of places for the annual North East half marathon in 2023.
Taking place on Sunday, September 10, an estimated 57,000 runners will take part.
People interested in running for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice can register their interest and be the first to know when those places become available.
Vicki Lesley, of the hospice’s fundraising team, said: “When you take part in an event such as the Great North Run it is not only a chance to challenge yourself and push your limits, but also to do something incredible for your local hospice and help us to continue caring for people in their time of need. If you’re interested in running for Team EVH and Jigsaw, please get in touch.”
