A Cumbrian man has raised over £430,000 for charity by running a marathon a day this year.
Now Cleator Moor’s Gary McKee has only three to go before he becomes a record-breaker by running 26.2 miles every day for a year.
He is raising money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support and as he reaches the last few days, more than £20,000 has been pledged overnight.
It follows profiles of Gary in the national press.
Sunday, December 31 will be his last marathon and people are urged to show their support.
He is planning on leaving Sanderson Park just after 8am.
ary will head to Woodend, Moor Row and Mirehouse before turning round and coming back up to Cleator Moor and then on to Bill’s Brews for the final time.
Bill’s Brews will be at Rowrah Race Track. The track will be open and there will be lots of parking.
Once Gary leaves Rowrah, he will head back to Mirehouse before coming back to Cleator Moor where he will leave the cycle track for the last time and head over to Wath Brow Hornets to finish.
Collection buckets will be along the route and it is hoped hundreds of people will turn out to cheer Gary along his last marathon.
Dozens of people have joined him every day on his marathons.
