Kendal Town (Ben Challis)

Kendal Town start a busy month tonight when they have the opportunity to make good progress up the North West Counties Premier Division table.

The Mintcakes visit Squire’s Gate who are two places and two points behind the Cumbrians in 18th.

Kendal have three or four games in hand over most of the 15 teams ahead of them in the table and have made significant strides before the freeze brought their progress to a halt.

Manager Jimmy Marshall has almost a full squad to pick from and worked his players on Monday morning at the Brierley Park indoor training centre.

This will be the first of nine games that Kendal have to fit in over the net 27 days. When they host Irlam on January 13 it will be their first home game at Parkside Road for six weeks. Yet of these nine games coming up only two are at home.

After Squire’s Gate tonight the games lined-up for Marshall’s men are: January 7, Isle of Man (A); January 10, Congleton Town (A); January 13, Irlam (H); January 18, AFC Liverpool (A); January 21, New Mills (H); January 25, Prestwich Heys (A); January 28, Winsford (A); January 31, West Didsbury and Chorlton (A).

Squire’s Gate announced last month that two of their promising young players striker Nathan Cliffe and midfielder Rowan Chambers had signed long-term contracts with the club.

Both are products of the Fylde Academy and have been instant hits at Squire’s Gate. Cliffe has netted 15 goals.
