A volunteer community first responder has admitted careless driving and also falsely reporting his BMW stolen.
Mark D’Vaz, aged 40 and from Cockermouth, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this afternoon.
During a hearing in front of Judge Ian Unsworth KC, D’Vaz pleaded guilty to three offences.
One involves committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice — namely by falsely reporting his car as stolen.
He admitted a second charge of driving without due care and attention on a stretch of the A5086, from Cockermouth to Frizington; and a third offence of failing to stop after an accident.
All three charges arise out of incidents on April 2 of last year.
D’Vaz was said by his lawyer, Peter Wilson, to be an engineering technical author who worked at the Sellafield site. In addition, he acted as a volunteer community first responder.
After hearing submissions, Judge Unsworth requested the preparation of a probation pre-sentence report which provides more details about the offence and his background, and adjourned the case.
D’Vaz is due to be sentenced for the three crimes at the crown court on February 9, and was granted unconditional bail by the judge in the meantime.
