Workington’s Carnegie Theatre has appointed a new general manager.
Cheryl Hewetson will take charge of the day-to-day operations of the building.
The appointment is part of the Carnegie’s strategy to increase its offering to the town and surrounding area as an entertainment venue, café and community centre.
Cheryl, who was previously a customer care leader at Barclays and has a background in musical theatre, said she was excited to jump into her new position.
She said: “Taking charge of such a vibrant venue is incredibly exciting. The Carnegie is an important part of Workington’s history and the current community and it’s an honour to be part of the team here.”
The theatre was built in 1903, originally as a public library and lecture hall. It has since seen a number of different uses and was taken over from the council by the Carnegie Theatre Trust (Workington) in 2015.
It is now run as a charity, hosting a large selection of entertainment events and providing a number of community services such as a weekly Warmth Hub.
Cheryl added: “There’s a lot of exciting things in the pipeline for 2023 and I can’t wait to welcome more people through the doors over the coming year and beyond.”
