
Non-league clubs in Cumbria were affected by the freeze just as much as their professional counterparts – almost!
There was some action in the West Lancashire League Premier Division where Whitehaven were beaten 3-0 at home to Coppell United.
There was also a south Cumbrian derby in Division One where a 44th minute goal from Harry Bolton proved the winner for Askam United.
Otherwise it was a blank day for local sides with only Workington Reds in NPL West avoiding a postponement – they didn’t have a fixture.
Only four games were played in the four NPL Divisions, none of them in the West section but Reds are due to travel to Mossley on Tuesday for a rearranged game.
Stalybridge Celtic won 4-0 at Nantwich, one of only two Premier Division games to go ahead and former Reds defender Kyle Harrison scored a stunning goal to cap the win four minutes from time for ex-Reds boss Chris Willcock.
In the Northern League, Penrith were due to travel to bottom club Thornaby for a key relegation battle but that was called off. Also postponed was Carlisle City’s home game with West Allotment Celtic, one which manager Jim Nichols was keen to win as his side had badly under-performed at Celtic earlier in the season.
Kendal Town had been due to play a rare home game against New Mills in the Macron Cup, planning to bounce back after a heavy 5-0 defeat at AFC Liverpool in mid-week. But the Parkside Road pitch failed an early-morning inspection.
In Division One North, Cleator Moor Celtic’s trip to Runcorn Town was called off for a second time while Holker Old Boys were advised not to travel to Ashton Town.
