Whitehaven director Gary Eilbeck is standing down after 13 years – and the club is looking to supplement the board over the coming weeks.
Eilbeck, who works out of the county for much of the time now, told Cumbria Crack of his intentions in an exclusive interview.
He said: “I will always maintain an interest in the club and do what I can do for them but it hasn’t been easy.
“I know how much money I have put into Whitehaven over the years and the work I’ve done for the club. I have been called the bad guy and had a lot of stress and hurt from some of the things that have gone on.
“In a way it’s a case of enough is enough which is why I have decided to stand down, wishing the club all the very best for the future.”
The Whitehaven club announced his departure on Twitter this morning saying: “The club would like to announce the departure of director Gary Eilbeck. He has been a part of our club now for 13 years and his financial support during this time has ensured we still have a club today.
“Gary has always put the club first and done what was needed tpo keep the club alive, even when times became tough he stood up and was counted.
“He has dealt with a lot of the stresses of the club privately and professionally.
“The directors are looking to strengthen the board and recognise an EGM of the shareholders need to be held shortly.
“We truly hope all parties can work together and secure the future of our great club.”
