Cumbria Conference leaders and reigning champions Upper Eden maintained their unbeaten run with a 50-10 home win over Wigton.

The home side applied instant pressure to the Wigton defence and within the first few minutes Matt Allison had crashed through the centres to take Eden to the Wigton line. From there quick maul work saw them score the opening try from Allison.

From the restart more good forward retention and a break up the pitch from Fin Rose with offloads to Travis Simpson and then ultimately Matt Brass saw him score near the posts with a successful conversion.

More dominance by Eden and good continuity in the backline released Sam Edgar on the wing to run in untouched to add to the lead before Wigton finally got some time with possession.

After some good phase play themselves they crashed over through the forwards as Kieran Armstrong made it 19-5.

This galvanised Eden to take charge for the remainder of the half with more good phase play resulting in tries for Simpson and Dan Todd for a 31-5 interval lead.  Three conversions had come from Allison.

For the first 20 minutes of the second half Wigton controlled possession but struggled to break down a strong home defence that was prepared to work extra hard to keep out the Greens.

Eden eventually regained some control of the ball and with a good break out from the backs saw Ollie Bennet in the corner and then some good forward interplay resulted in Sam Birkbeck crashing over.

The final score from Eden came with a string of good hands from backs and forwards to set up Dave Birkbeck, with the line begging, but unselfishly passed to Edgar to stroll over for a converted try. Oliver Bennett kicked the two second-half conversions.

In the last play of the game Wigton showed some good hands amongst their forwards and backs and earned a well-deserved try in the corner from Charlie Bell.

Wigton gave a committed display in defeat but continue to struggle to put out their best team as several were unable to travel. There were positives though, particularly the return after a long injury for Josh Nicholson and a promising debut by Callum Smaille.
