Maryport continued their encouraging pre-season build-up with a 42-12 win at Egremont A.
But the result was irrelevant really as both sides got what they wanted out of the contest.
Egremont will have high hopes of competing well in the Cumberland ARL with this squad which contains a number of promising youngsters.
The average age of the Egremont side was 18 with 10 of last year’s Under-16s stepping up to open age.
Coach Kevin Brown said: “We played well in patches but showed that we still have a bit of work to do before we start the season.
“I’m happy with my side’s efforts as they are very young and will only get better as the season progresses.”
Kaiden Block and Sam Williams scored the Egremont tries with Block landing two conversions.
Maryport coach Mark Foster had made seven changes from his squad which beat Roose on Saturday, and included three of last season’s Under-16’s.
He said: “I made personnel and positional changes from the Roose game, and a number of inexperienced players played well.
“It was a really solid team performance which has given me some tough decisions on selection for our final friendly next week at Shevington Sharks.
“In the last half an hour we gave away a number of penalties and repeat sets but I was really pleased with how we defended as a result.”
The Maryport tries were scored by Blake Miller (2), Luke Baker (2), Ellis Nixon (2) and Liam Anderson with Miller kicking five goals and Josh Patterson adding two.
