Barrow Raiders could be missing hooker Josh Wood for up to two months after he was injured early in Sunday’s home game with Sheffield Eagles.
He was looking to celebrate his 100th career appearance in style when he was forced off early in proceedings and the Raiders went on to lose 36-16.
Further examination of the injury has resulted in a prognosis that he could miss between four to eight weeks of rugby.
Coach Paul Crarey said: “Josh is a tough kid, and hopefully it heals pretty well. With his attitude, it’ll hopefully only be a four-week injury rather than eight.”
Several first team players picked up minor knocks, and they will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s first away game at Swinton Lions.
Crarey said: “We’re eating into our squad early this year. We were probably very lucky last year with our injuries, and this year at the start we’ve not been so lucky. Our medical team are doing really well with the players and are on the ball though.”
Forward Sam Brooks continues to work his way back to full fitness, but he remains unavailable for this weekend’s trip to face a Swinton side buoyant after a very good win at Batley last week.
