Organisers of a Lake District town’s Christmas event is asking for help from the business community so it can go ahead in 2023.
Windermere’s Christmas Celebration attracts thousands of people each year to the town but organisers said increased costs and reduced public sector support meant it was struggling financially.
The event features live music and on-street entertainment, food and craft stalls and a funfair.
Event director Kate Barton has sent a letter to businesses in the town, asking them to pledge financial support for this year’s event.
She said: “We’ve always had amazing support from the community but the financial support has landed on the shoulders of a few key sponsors.
“We are very grateful for those sponsors but they’ve made it clear that we need a wider base of financial support given how widely the benefits of the event stretch throughout our town.”
In the letter, Kate said more businesses need to be involved and on board for the event to continue.
An open afternoon for businesses will be held at 1pm on Wednesday March 1 at Windermere Tourist Information so they can find out how they can help.
