A man has appeared in court accused of stealing two quad bikes worth £11,000 from an Eden village farm — and been banned from all farms as police continue to investigate.

Stuart Kendrick, 41, faces one charge. This alleges burglary and that he entered as a trespasser a farm at Plumpton, near Penrith, and stole the two high value Honda quad bikes.

It is alleged that Kendrick did this on May 10 last year.

When he appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning, Kendrick, of the city’s Ashness Drive, entered no plea when the charge was put to him by a legal advisor.

He spoke from the dock to confirm his name, date of birth and address during a short hearing.

Prosecutor George Shelley told the court other people — in addition to Kendrick — were under investigation for alleged involvement in the incident.

Hearing submissions and of complexities in case evidence, including telephony and cell site analysis, the district judge, John Temperley, sent it to Carlisle Crown Court.

Kendrick is due to appear there in front of a judge on March 20 when it is envisaged he will enter a plea to the charge.

In the meantime he was granted bail. Conditions include non-contact with prosecution witnesses, a night-time curfew and a ban on attending at any farm premises
