Workington Town sit top of League One after the opening round of matches following a 58-16 win at London Skolars.
Coach Anthony Murray couldn’t have asked for a better start to the new season and was full of praise for his players.
“It was a really pleasing first performance, especially aswe had to travel down on the Friday and stay overnight.
“We didn’t have a run-out anywhere in London beforehand but we just concentrated on proper preparation for the players ahead of the game.
“I wanted us to start well, because London Skolars are an enthusiastic side who can build up momentum if you let them.
“We scored ten tries, a lot of them from excellent play and made the quick start I wanted, which was very pleasing.
“With Carl Forber injured we have two young half-backs in Ceiran Walker and Fergus Simpson and I asked them to take us round the park and boss the opposition. I thought they did that really well and both can feel very pleased with their performances.
“I will be checking at training on Tuesday but I don’t think we have any worrying injuries, just the usual bumps and bruises although you can be particularly sore from playing on an artificial surface,” said Murray.
Murray and his squad have been given a massive thumbs-up from club chairman John Pleasants.
He said: “It was a very difficult season last year as it is a massive jump from League One to the Championship.
“What I’m seeing this year is a really good attitude around the club. There is a lot of positivity and we’ve got a good group of lads.
“Anthony Murray is a breath of fresh air. I’ve liked what I’ve seen and it all bodes well. We will rebuild and see where we go from here.”
