Maryport completed their pre-season build up with a trip to Shevington Sharks in Wigan.
The Sharks, founded in 1979, are the third oldest amateur club in the Wigan area and play in the North West Counties Premier League.
It was a good test for Maryport, who had 23 players available, and used 18 during four 20 minute periods.
Head coach Mark Foster said: “It was a really good test for our lads, especially the younger ones who had never played a match away before.
“We got off to a slow start and were 10-0 down after five minutes but came back well to lead 20-10 and then going into the last 20 minutes it was 22-22.
“That’s when we conceded four late tries and I’m afraid our defence wasn’t good enough then, which was disappointing.
“It gives up things to work on before our first CARL game on March 11 at Kells A. We are all looking forward to that one and the experience of playing at Shevington will have been good for the lads, especially the younger ones, as they were a well organised, big and fast side.”
Try scorers in the 46-22 defeat for Maryport were Blake Miller (2), man of the match Luke Baker and Luke Cremmins. Craig Foster kicked two goals and Gary Taylor landed one.
