People are being invited to view the latest plans to transform a popular Millom beauty spot into a nationally significant visitor attraction.
The drop-in event will feature artist’s impressions of the attraction alongside updates on the Iron Line project – which aims to enhance the nature reserve at RSPB Hodbarrow following community engagement sessions last year.
When completed, The Iron Line is expected to attract up to 100,000 visits per year.
Robert Morris-Eyton, chair of the Millom Town Deal Board, said: “We were delighted to secure £29.3 million for our four projects last November and we are now in the exciting delivery phase.
“The Iron Line will be transformative for Millom. It will have direct benefits on the health and wellbeing of local residents as the area is enhanced to make it more accessible and inclusive for walking, cycling and exercise.
“And – based on data made available to us – it will deliver a significant financial boost to the town as it attracts visitors and tourists.
“The drop in event will keep residents informed about the scheme as it is further developed based on public feedback and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to view the progress for themselves.”
The Iron Line scheme will incorporate upgrades to the significant landmarks alongside a new welcome centre which will include a café/bar, retail space and events room and adjacent parking for around 80 vehicles.
Upwards of 7km of walking and cycling routes will also be enhanced as part of the project.
The drop in session will be held on Saturday, March 4 at the Millom Guide Hall from 12.30pm-6.30pm.
