Paul Brown helped the Golf Club B side record their first win.

Division Two newcomers Workington Golf Club B have won their first match of the season in the L & L Property Contractors Snooker League.

They opened their account with a superb 3-2 home win over Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.

Rack Shack’s Wayne Sinclair opened up with a win to put the Whitehaven outfit in front before a victory on the black by Chris George got the Golf Club B off the mark.

The next frame was again to go all the way as Will Fennel won the game on the final ball to put the Golf Club B 2-1 up.

The match continued in the same vein with frame four needing another close victory to decide it but with Paul Brown coming out on top he guaranteed a first match win of the season for the Workington side at 3-1.

The last frame of the match was all about damage limitation for the Rack Shack and with a thumping win Andy Moore did just that to end the match at 3-2.

Club B stay fifth in Division Two on 13 points with the Rack Shack one place higher on 19 points.

Division One leaders Workington Golf Club A travelled to Division Two leaders Flimby Social and in an extremely competitive fixture the top tier side ran out 3-2 winners.

A Kevin Kirkham first frame victory put the home side 1-0 up, remaining top of the Division Two leading player stats in the process, but in a game equally as close as the first Mark Brasted levelled it for the Golf Club A.

Yet another disciplined display in the third from Richard Kirkham put Flimby 2-1 in front before the Golf Club Ahit back  as a Phil Sorfleet win took the match into a decider.

In the last Ryan Ismay was giving nothing away and with a measured performance the Golf Club A cueist calmly took the frame and match to the delight of his teammates.

The Golf Club A are top of Division One on 49 points and Flimby are at the summit of Division Two on 39 points.

Workington’s United Club produced an impressive display at home to Workington Veterans Club as they recorded a fine 4-1 victory.

Needing a snooker in the first with pink and black remaining Dave Chapman produced a remarkable shot that not only grabbed the penalty points he needed but also resulted in him getting an opportunity to take the last two balls to win.

Frame two started fairly evenly but it was Clive Lister who made the most of his opportunities later in the frame to put the United Club 2-0 up.

The third frame saw an early 34 break, and subsequent lead, for Peter O’Hagan evaporate away but in making a gutsy double to the corner pocket on the final ball the United Club cueist put his team 3-0 up, staying top of the leading player averages in the process.

In the fourth frame Andrew Mitchelhill played solidly from the off and in keeping his foot on the accelerator he gave the United Club a sniff of the whitewash at 4-0.

The last frame saw the Vets side convert to take what could be a vital point as the match ended 4-1. The United Club are third in Division One on 42 points and the Vets Club are fourth on 38 points.

Finally, Workington Conservative Club recovered from 1-0 down to record a confident 4-1 win against Workington’s Station Road Club.

A quite brilliant clearance from green to black to force a re-spot gave Tom Thompson the confidence he needed to take the extra ball and put his side 1-0 up.

This show of excellence didn’t seem to work in Station Road Club’s favour as Julian Plaza and Alan Moore soon cancelled this out to put the Cons outfit 2-1 up.

A Dave Holland victory soon advanced the Cons lead to 3-1 and as Ryan Barker won a close final frame a 4-1 match victory was wrapped up.

Cons are second in Division One on 45 points with Station Road Club second in Division Two on 32 points.
