Actor Paul Whitehouse has visited Windermere as part of a new TV series focused on rivers.

Our Troubled Rivers, which airs on BBC 2 at 8pm March 5 will feature Windermere Jetty Museum in its first episode.

Zoologist, conservationist and water campaigner Matt Staniek will also appear in the episode to speak with Paul about Windermere’s water quality.

In the first episode, the duo go out on the lake aboard 1930’s heritage steam launch Penelope II to get closer to the water and explore what is going on beneath the surface.

Paul also looks at the impact water companies have on rivers and the change in the water industry since privatisation in 1989 and what regulations are in place when it comes to sewage discharge into rivers.

In his new TV series, Paul travels around England and Wales to explore why rivers and waterways are in decline and what needs to be done to protect them.

Caroline Robinson, head of innovation and business development at the museum said: “We were delighted to host Matt and Paul at Windermere Jetty Museum to highlight this important environmental topic.”

Matt added: “’I’ve been running my Save Windermere campaign to stop sewage pollution in our lake for the past 19 months, it relies on spreading awareness as far and as wide as possible.

“So It was an absolute pleasure being able to speak with Paul Whitehouse about the threats that Windermere is facing for his TV series about water quality in the UK.”
