Barrow’s promotion challenge is back on after their 1-0 win at Walsall pushed them back to four points off the play-offs.
A third 1-0 victory in four games has revitalised their challenge after a poor run of results had seen them slip from second to the lower half of the table.
By comparison the defeat for Walsall ended a run of six draws in a row, which has affected their challenge for a place in the top seven.
It was Barrow who started the brightest and Jake Young put in a long run into the area but his shot was saved by Owen Evans who had narrowed the angle well.
The goal which was to eventually settle the contest came on 22 minutes when Billy Waters controlled a deflected shot from Ben Whitfield and without hesitation thumped a shot from 12 yards into the roof of the net.
Walsall offered few threats and the Bluebirds looked more likely to contribute further goals before the break. Young made another pacey solo run before firing wide while a half volley from Waters at full stretch was just over.
Even after the break Barrow looked more dangerous when twice went close after the break as a header from Sam McClelland was hooked off the line and a glancing header by Rory Feely didn’t miss by much.
Robbie Willmott had an opportunity for Walsall but was guilty of failing to contact properly with a volley and then late on Barrow keeper Paul Farman made a fine late save to deny Isaac Hutchinson and send his team home with the points.
