
South Cumbrian firefighters spent four hours rescuing a sheep which had fallen down a 22ft hole.
The sheep had fallen down the opening to a lime kiln in a field near the coast road in Barrow.
Crews from Barrow and Ulverston were called out to help rescue the animal from the 22ft – or seven metre – hole.
The crews used a nine metre ladder, working at height line rescue equipment, air monitoring unit and animal rescue equipment.
The farmer’s tractor was was used as an anchor point to rescue the sheep safely.
The sheep was not injured and Barrow Fire Station staff said it was pleased to be reunited with the flock
