Carlisle-based referee Georgia Vyse has been promoted again on the Women’s Referee Promotion Pathway.

This is Georgia’s second promotion during 2022/23 and comes a week after she officiated on an England Women’s Under-15s game at St George’s Park.

The prestigious appointment was particularly significant as it came direct from the FA.

Georgia only started refereeing in July 2021, and was promoted to Level 6 County Referee in December 2022.

As well as being appointed by the FA to officiate England Women’s U15s at St George’s Park, Georgia is also a member of the County CORE Group, the FA National CORE Group, and the newly-formed FA Women’s Referee Emerging Talent Programme.

After refereeing the game, Georgia said: “It was an honour and a pleasure to represent Cumberland FA. To be given the opportunity to referee the future Lionesses of the country is incredible. I am so grateful and proud of my journey in refereeing so far.

“Change in women’s football is happening. If you want to play, referee, or both, the opportunities are there now. Every girl should have the choice.”

Scott Taylor, Cumberland FA referee development officer, said: “I am very proud of Georgia’s achievements this season. She has come a long way in the past 18 months, from starting her referee course to refereeing an England Women’s U15 game at St George’s Park.

“She has achieved things already in the game that I haven’t had the opportunity to do, and I’ve been refereeing for 22 seasons!

“She is really benefiting from being in the county CORE and national CORE Groups as she is receiving and putting into practice the expert development training.

“She has recently been signed up for the newly formed FA Women’s Referee Emerging Talent Programme and she is also hoping to gain further promotion from Level 6 to Level 5 by the end of the season.

“If she does, it will be a magnificent achievement to gain three promotions in one season!”
