Twenty-three years after it was first introduced, a self-guided town trail around Cockermouth now has its own app.
Hundreds of people have taken advantage of the town trail since its introduction to find areas of the town not normally seen and now, Cockermouth and District Civic Trust hopes people will use the app it has introduced to add an extra element to the 2km walk.
Numbered plaques were installed at key points of interest along the trail, with a descriptive leaflet made available from the tourist information centre.
The society teamed up with Cumbria Archives to produce the app, which automatically provides verbal commentaries and photographs at the way points along the trail.
All visitors have to do is scan the QR code in the town trail leaflet into their smartphone and the commentary and photograph for each location will be provided on arrival.
The app was launched this week. The app uses software supported by North West Sound and the leaflet is available to buy from the tourist information centre and the New Bookshop.
