A dog was rescued by coastguard volunteers after it fell from some West Cumbrian cliffs.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Kells in Whitehaven this afternoon.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Our team, having just finished a patrol in the nearby area, were swiftly on scene and located a dog and member of public approximately 50 meters over the cliff.
“An immediate rope rescue set-up was established and a rope rescue technician was deployed to access and stabilise.
“The dog was secured in our animal rescue bag, before being recovered up the cliff to its owners who were waiting anxiously.”

Volunteers were there for around one-and-a-half hours.
HM Coastguard said owners and passers-by should not attempt to rescue animals in trouble. The service is there to help.

A spokesman said: “If your dog should end up in need of assistance, please don’t attempt a self rescue. Stay in the location the dog went over the cliff and call 999 for the Coastguard immediately.”
