Anthony Murray praised the work ethic of his side after their 38-28 win at Midlands Hurricanes.
The Birmingham side provided stubborn resistance and it was only in the last few minutes of the game that Town made certain of victory.
Murray said: “It was a really good team effort and the work ethic played a big part.
“We had set off like a house on fire and were 18 points up very early on. But then a series of mistakes, followed by penalties put us back on our line and they have some good players so were able to take advantage and close the gap.
“We were always ahead but had to work really hard to stay in front and that was one of the pleasing things about the game.”
Murray had to go into the game without two of his senior players, captain Stevie Scholey (thumb) and Jason Mossop (shoulder) while Carl Forber, Tom Curwen and Malik Steele are long-term injury absentees.
“We had lots of experience missing and during the game twice had to play with 12 men because of yellow cards, so again that was a plus that we came through it with the win,” added the coach.
Murray also had praise for five-try Sean Sabutey who has scored six times in League Two and is the joint top with Dewsbury’s Owen Restall.
“The lads inside him have done well to provide him with the space to get away and he has the pace to finish.
“But he’s done more for us than score tries because he’s been involved in clearing runs from our own line.
“He has settled in really well and we are all delighted for him and with how he’s been performing,” said Murray.
But Town don’t play again until Good Friday when they entertain Murray’s former club North Wales Crusaders.
“It’s a stop-start season really which isn’t good but at least this free weekend will give some of our players time to recover from their injury issues,” said Murray.
