Community rallies round after Prism Arts call for help

A Cumbrian arts organisation says it has been moved by the generosity of the county after an appeal for help was answered.

Prism Arts, a Carlisle-based disability arts charity, put a call out on social media for art supplies.

The charity, like many others, said it had been feeling the squeeze of the cost of living crisis and found that the running cost of its accessible art programmes was increasing.

After asking for help on social media, Prism Arts said it was staggered by the response. Calls and emails began flooding in from people offering the charity their spare art materials. Donations have included a crate of spray cans, printmaking materials, easels, paints and other creative supplies.

Katie Lock, visual arts lead at Prism Arts, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you for the generosity from the local community. Something as simple as a pack of coloured paper can make a big difference in what we are able to do. With these donations we can now look to sourcing more specialist equipment to increase accessibility and creative ambition!”

If you can donate art supplies, email office@prismarts.org.uk or call 01228 587691.
