Volunteers collected 13 bags of rubbish from a Cumbrian nature reserve – including a metal ironing board frame.
They spent an hour at Engine Lonning nature reserve, in Carlisle, joining forces with river conservation charity Eden Rivers Trust for a litter pick as part of the Great British Spring Clean.
Jenni Payne, community outreach and volunteer co-ordinator for the trust, said: “It was great to see so many people of all ages coming out to help spruce up their local green space and make it a cleaner, healthier place for people to enjoy and for wildlife to thrive.
“Now is the ideal time to clear our outdoor spaces of any litter that may have built up over winter before plants and grasses grow too long and make the litter harder to see and reach.”
This event was supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of Eden Rivers Trust’s Access to Eden: breaking barriers, building bridges partnership project that aims to provide opportunities for people to get out and enjoy their local rivers and green spaces and take action to protect them so that everyone else can enjoy them.
