Five members of the new Workington Comets spent the weekend on two days of practice at the Northside track.
Luke Crang, Luke Harrison, Elliot Kelly and the McGurk brothers Harry and Sam as well as the riders earmarked for the Northern Junior League squad all put in a number of laps around the new circuit.
The Meteors – who will take part in the Northern Junior League – will be named shortly by promoters Andrew Bain and Steve Lawson.
Meanwhile one of the absentees from the practice sessions was number one Connor Bailey who was riding for Redcar Bears in their delayed Knockout Cup clash with Berwick Bandits.

Redcar established a 16-point lead over Berwick with a 53-37 win in the first leg of their tie at the ECCO Arena.

Bailey scored five points and two bonus from his four rides at number two, claiming a second and three thirds. Former Comet Charles Wright scored ten while reserve Jason Edwards top-scored with 13.

Redcar manager Gavin Parr said: “I’m really happy with the performance of the side, apart from Jake Mulford crashing in Heat 2 and having to be withdrawn things couldn’t have gone much better overall.

“The second strings (Connor Bailey and Danyon Hume) did more than was expected of them, and that was really encouraging.
“Jason was fantastic for us at reserve, he really stepped up for us.”
- The new Workington promotion have organised a meeting for Wednesday, April 12 at the Waverley Hotel (7pm start) for any potential volunteers on race days. There are openings for track staff and hospitality.
