A Lake District hotel is celebrating its 25th year as part of a group.
Briery Wood Country Hotel in Windermere joined Lake District Country Hotels in 1998. The group also runs Cragwood and Merewood hotels.
Briery Wood was built at the end of the 19th century and was originally known as Holbeck Cottage. David Williams, a local businessman, acquired the hotel in 1998 when it was Belmont Manor, for use as a training venue for his company Impact, joining Cragwood and Merewood.
Shortly after, the hotel was renamed Briery Wood and the three hotels became part of Lake District Country Hotels group.
At the time of purchase the hotel was a family run hotel with 12 bedrooms. In 2000, the hotel underwent major renovation and the hotel increased its bedrooms to 23.
Briery Wood currently employs 30 people, one of which Matthew Surridge also celebrates his 25th work anniversary at Briery Wood.
Joe Cobb, the hotel group’s executive manager, said: “Since the company bought the hotel, which was once known as Belmont Manor, the building has changed remarkably and over the years we have been most proud to take the hotel to a four-star standard and achieve two AA rosettes for culinary excellence.
“The one thing that hasn’t changed however is our continued focus on people, whether that be our guests or our team. We have some wonderful people who make Briery Wood what it is and we hope to welcome many more in the next 25 years.”
