Keswick headed to County Durham on Saturday for the rearranged game against Consett which was the last Regional Two North game of the season.
It would turn out to be a close contest and a fitting end to a season that the whole club have enjoyed even allowing for more defeats than wins.
Consett just edged this one 16-13 but the North East clubs have been welcoming and hospitable and the Keswick club is glad to have the chance to compete at the same level again next season.
Against the general run of the early play a well taken try by captain George Holme gave Keswick a 5-0 lead.
It was to be another 30 minutes before another score as defences were prominent for both sides with Keswick living on scraps of possession. Consett managed to score an unconverted try from a driving maul to bring the scores level just before half time.
The second half continued much the same as the first with Consett dominating possession but being caught out by a strong Keswick defence and a number of handling errors.
However the hosts managed to get in front with a second unconverted try after a further 20 minutes of the second half and shortly after stretched the lead to 13-5 with a penalty.
After this Keswick went on the attack with numerous long runs from Ryan Weir and better forward drives led to an eventual finish from Holme again to close the deficit to just three points.
As is often the case a score was conceded almost straight away with Consett converting a penalty to stretch the lead.
As the match headed towards its conclusion Keswick pressed once more to pull it back to 16-13 with a penalty from debutant Ben Clark. The last few minutes were all Keswick but Consett held on to the end.
The club looks forward now to a break to get refreshed and to start a new season still at Level 6, still enjoying playing at a good standard.
