Holker Old Boys are still on the fringes of the NW Counties League Division One North play-off places.
They did well to earn a point last night at home to second-in-the-table Chadderton after playing with ten men for more than half the game.
Tom Dawson was sent-off just before half-time as the teams finished the first 45 minutes all square at 1-1. There were no further goals in the second half.
Holker have matches in hand over the two teams immediately above them and who both currently occupy the last two play-off spots. But both their rivals – Euxton Villa and Ilkley Town – have superior goal differences.
Unfortunately county neighbours Cleator Moor Celtic were beaten 3-2 at home last night by Nelson – a result which mathematically makes certain of their relegation.
Once again it seemed to sum up their season – leading 2-1, going off the boil and conceding the winner in time added on.
They did concede the opening goal on 14 minutes to Albert Canache but by half-time had worked their way into a deserved 2-1 lead with two goals from Connor Hammell.
However Nelson levelled on 65 minutes through Ashley Brierley and a minute into stoppage time Sam Langford hit the winner. It was a big result for Nelson as it lifted them out of the bottom three drop zone.
