A man who had initially stood accused of robbing a central Carlisle shop worker of clothing has admitted a lesser charge of theft.
Nathan Dixon, 24, appeared at the city’s crown court this morning.
During a short hearing, Dixon admitted a public order offence following an incident at the British Country Clothing Store, English Street. This occurred on October 1 last year.
Dixon had previously also entered a guilty plea to the theft of clothing from the premises. He had originally been charged with robbery but this allegation was withdrawn in light of Dixon’s admission of stealing.
The public order charge reflects a degree of force which was used during the incident.
Judge Nicholas Barker directed that a pre-sentence report should be prepared, giving details of the defendant’s background and circumstances surrounding the offence.
He adjourned the case so that Dixon, of Gloucester Road, Carlisle, can be interviewed by a probation officer. He is due to be sentenced at the crown court on April 28, and was granted bail in the meantime.
